Default 1965 chvelle wheel size

Hello,

What's the largest width wheel I can put on a 1965 Chevelle, completely stock. The fronts will be on 18s and rear on 20s. Thanks!

If I did go with 8.5" width, what am I in danger of doing? Sorry, kinda new to this.

Rubbing on the fender lip or inner wheelwell depending on offset.

I would suggest an 18/19 stagger because 19x9 is a standard width that will fit and the 1" stagger looks more modern and the fitment is a little easier.

How would a 19x9 fit if it was just said that an 8.5 would be the max?

Kenny probably said that because 8 and 8.5 are standard 20" widths. 9.0 is not. The 9 is snug but we've done it on them before in 18 and 19

I was thinking about doing a 20/18 combo because that's what I hear most people are doing without any mods. I will have hotchkiss suspension but it would be pretty standard. The last 65 Chevelle I saw had 235/40/18 in front and 245/35/20 in the back. I would still like something wider. I will be pushing 500 HP and 500 torque as well out of a big block (not sure if this info helps) and I'm just trying to figure out how wide I can go with that set up. Not sure if my suspension and engine combo will will make me more prone to any kind of tire rub.
