Default Lapping Day at BIR - Charlie vs. Scott ???

Hi Guys, I've been a lurker here for quite a while. I haven't had much to add to the site until this idea.

I'm the Regional Executive of Land O Lakes region SCCA, a Road Racer and a huge Pro-Touring fan.

I'm organizing an event for Memorial Weekend at Brainerd International Raceway in northern Minnesota. This event will have race groups (both current era and vintage) and also SCCA sanctioned "Performance Driving Experience" groups. PDE is a new program, similar to other's club's lapping events. PDE's are open to anyone with a driver license and a car they would like to learn to and practice driving fast.

I'd love to see some Pro-touring guys bring their cars out and see how they perform on a real track.

BIR is a horsepower track (to the highest degree) and has a challenging back-side. Compared to other tracks it has a fair amount of run-off room, it isn't ringed with concrete barriers. It does have a couple very high-speed corners that demand respect though.

BIR's unique feature is it's main straight. It's 5000 feet long. The corner leading onto it is ususlly taken at about 60 mph. Turn one can be taken at terminal velocity. All in all it's a pretty good track to find your top speed.

Now, say if we had a high end PT car (it's Silver) that has only seen a chassis dyno and if we had another guy (in Minnesota) building a similar car, this would be an opportunity to see what they can do on asphalt.

Thoughts?

Hi Tom, welcome aboard!

I really want to get my car on a track when I get it done. I've never done that before, but I can imagine how much fun it would be. I've been planning on taking part in track events since I started building it. My car won't hold a candle to the Mule! That car is the Holy Grail!

What's going on with Brainerd? Lots of rumors!

Default Heaven

Dang, I forgot about Big Red. Seeing Big Red and the Mule at the same event would be PT heaven. Not to mention the other cars of this caliber.

Throw in a home-coming appearance by Courtney Hansen and her Dad (Jerry Hansen used to own BIR) and this would be a good cover story for PHR.....

Scott, there are a lot of runors about BIR right now (it is for sale). People with contracts for 2005 have been assured that the track will be open for 2005. 2006 is anyone's guess.

Well, I hope another track gets built before Brainerd gets turned into 6 Flags.

Big Red is an all time favotire, and it looked great at SEMA.
