Default Painting an LS intake...

So I'm looking to paint my intake. Nothing fancy, just a low low gloss black. Talked to a buddy w a sprayer and he told me we can use 'Bulldog' as an adhesion agent to prevent peeling. Problem is when I went to the local autobody suppliers, they reccommended a high temp paint but were not sure if it would work w Bulldog. Further, none carry high temp (in Cali, you know ) and suggested I order something from Eastwood off the net.

So what paint do you guys think I should use? With or without Bulldog?

Stefan, Rick?

Well if it was me I would use Sikkens Primer PO and Rally Black both in a spray can. You need to make sure it is CLEAN (clean with a Cali approved raw plastic cleaner) that is the most important thing Ron, scuff with a red or gray scuff pad, then spray on a nice even coat of Primer PO then you should use a wet on wet sealer and..... You know what send me the intake and i will do it and send it back to you!! Or I can send you the spray cans and some more details either way no charge!!!

Not sure Ron, but I just gave my Fast 90mm intake to my buddy who owns a collision shop and he sanded down the logo painted it to look OEM. I'm pretty sure you wont require high temp paint as the intake is plastic. I'll ask him what he used.

My old shop was next to Speed Inc. I have painted many of these from body color, to make it look stock (Fast intake) never use high temp paint even on some turbo cars never did.

Ron, I agree with Rick ,no need for high-temp paint. The most important step is the cleaning, any adhesion promoters will do the job just fine, I however, stay away from Bulldog, do not trust it after it has failed on my personal car years ago. I use Plastic Magic from Urethane Supply Company on all plastics.

Question, though. Why paint it same color/sheen as it came stock? Is it just rough and needs to be freshened up? Make sure to use catalized paint or matte clear, rattle can paint will come off or smear if gas or cleaner gets on it.

Thx for all the replies guys!

@Rick - call you in a little bit.

@Stefan - I did a little horse trading, my almost new LS7 intake for a Mamo ported intake and TB w about 5k miles. Mine was pretty clean but this one shows a little mileage just on the outside. I'm going for the functional look in the engine bay, so no matching the body color, but I do think I'll clear it.

@tooblue - nice job, looks great!

I'm sure you'll be glad you didn't go that route in the long run.
About the only place I could even think to use that stuff on your car is under it after numerous track beatings and just for touch up.
Now on MY car........ I may use the crap by the case load!
